MOM!
This week has been pretty
tough. Those Iban kids are having a really tough
time with the Word of
Wisdom and because of that they felt too ashamed to come
to church, so we had 0
people at church.
That was pretty depressing! We have
been
trying really hard to find a good family to teach, but with no success!
We
are getting destroyed again and I feel really bad for my
companion because he
is a very sensitive guy! We are always getting spit on, yelled at, and
cussed at. We contacted for three solid hours yesterday and for some reason
everyone
was drunk--and they are really brave when they are drunk! For
instance, there
was a group of guys sitting in the street drinking. We
walked by them and me,
being my friendly self, waved at them. They
told me to shut
up—so, of course, I did--but Elder Robbins didn’t understand
what
the guy had said. So Elder Robbins yells, "Apa Khabar!" which means, “What’s
up!” I told Elder Robbins to run because
he was going to get us killed. That particular
night was pretty bad. It got to the
point where
I would just walk up to people knowing that they were going to
spit in
my face. I would still try to talk
to them just for
the heck of it and sure enough they were usually pretty rude!
We did find one twenty-one year old kid who is pretty interested though!! So we
will see
how that goes!
Crazy story! Two weeks ago
this lady told us—and she was really rude about it--that
she didn’t want to
meet with us anymore. But then two days
ago, she calls us all panicked and tells us that her daughter is in
the
hospital and not doing very well. We got
on our bikes, in pouring down rain, and rode an hour into town. On our way
there, I got a flat tire so we picked up our bikes and ran the rest of the way
in
the rain! The doctors told the mom that her daughter would be in the hospital
for
at least a week and that’s only if everything went really well! We gave her daughter a blessing
and then decided
to get the mom some food because she had
been at the hospital all day. I’m
sure that we looked like idiots because we didn’t
have our bikes and by this
time it was really dark outside. So we
attached our bike lights
to ourselves and started sprinting down the street in
the rain
. We managed to bring the mom's food back
and then we called the senior couple to come
and take us home. The next day her daughter
wakes up and, BOOM, she is fine!
Unfortunately,
the entire incident didn’t soften the mother’s heart, but maybe someday.
Today I went to this place to
get a hair cut but all the sudden a pondan
(transvestite) came out of nowhere and asked,
"What can I get for ya?"
I said, "Yea...never mind. I don’t
need a hair cut anymore!" and then
I got up and ran out of the store, haha!
I’m almost half way through my
mission! I can’t wait to come home and
show off my Iban skills. Okay Mom, I love you so, so, so much and I can’t wait
to
Skype!!
